Descrição: The rationale behind this project is to develop a package of research collaboration around the theme of Brazil s rise as an emerging power. This will consist of a discrete research project, the construction of a joint project Web interface, an on-line resource pack for graduate students and a project workshop. This variety of activities will provide several entry points for academics and research students from the three universities involved in the project. The outputs from each will be complementary but will differ to allow each of the scholars several opportunities to contribute to the overall-project. The package of research will (peer-reviewed, jointly written articles; a Special lssue of the journal Third World Ouarterly or similar and an edited volume) will be combined with less traditional methods of stimulating and sustaining longer-term co-operation between the Universities of Birmingham, Nottingham and University of Sao Paulo (USP).
